Erasmus Policy Statement


The Jesuit University Ignatianum in Krakow aims at developing and disseminating knowledge, creating the best research conditions, training students and academic staff. According to its statute the University accomplishes tasks in the spirit of Ignatian pedagogy.

The international strategy of the University corresponds with the European Union policy. The main objectives of the international strategy are the support of participants in order to enable them to effectively exploit their potential human resources, to promote the idea of lifelong learning, to increase the fields of cooperation and mobility of the program within the country, to support participants in gaining knowledge, competencies and qualifications in order to further their future development, to allow participants to get to know an international environment, to encourage openness and cooperation, to support a willingness to adapt and develop a sensitivity to mental and cultural differences, to boost employment opportunities for students through their participation in foreign internships by giving them professional experience and promoting social equality and integration together with linguistic development. Both students and employees have equal access to participation in the project. The rules and procedures adopted by the university are respected equally with regards each and every individual. Candidates with disabilities or from disadvantaged backgrounds are not discriminated against.

The project plays a crucial role in the effective functioning of the university as well as on the introduction and diffusion of the Bologna process and the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) system. The project has a positive impact on its participants by increasing their confidence in pursuing potential trips.

The participation in the Erasmus+ Programme brings long term benefits to the University in terms of the growth in its internationalization, recognition, common international publications, common academic conferences, an increase in the quality of education thanks to the lessons conducted by foreign academics, increased professionalism amongst the academic staff, the development of the educational offer in foreign languages (part of the internationalization of the studies), improving linguistic competencies, inspiring new projects and having a positive influence on group activities.

The participation in the Erasmus+ Programme has a considerable effect on the development of the university and forming the basis for its internationalization. The positive effects of the Programme are reflected to the increased number of interested parties every year.

Goals of the University in reference to the Erasmus+ Programme:

  • coordinating the mobility of students (including traineeship), teachers and administrative staff,
  • promoting international projects in order to raise the number of students and teachers involved in work with international groups,
  • strengthening education quality through mobility and cross-border cooperation, linking higher education, research, and business for excellence and regional development,
  • developing training standards in accordance with the guidelines of the Bologna Declaration and the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS),
  • searching for new foreign partners to increase inter-institutional students mobility; new partner are chosen based on related fields of study all over Europe,
  • developing the quality and volume of cooperation with foreign companies and institutions in order to open the access to the European labor market for students,
  • increasing attainment levels to provide the graduates and researchers according to European needs,
  • improving teaching qualifications of the academic staff by introducing innovative teaching tools and techniques,
  • improving qualifications of administrative staff by participation in international trainings, research, and multilateral projects,
  • improving quality and relevance of higher education by enriching the educational offer of the university in foreign languages,
  • improving the linguistic competences of teachers and students by promoting language learning,
  • raising the level of education and adapting the curriculum to the needs of labor market,
  • extending the range of teaching by using e-learning,
  • providing equal opportunities for students and staff with disabilities, poorer social backgrounds.

University commitments:

  • to ensure the highest level of organization for student and staff mobility,
  • to provide easy access to information about the study programs,
  • to ensure the compliance with the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS),
  • to ensure equal treatment and access to support for all participants,
  • to support the adaptation of incoming students with the local environment,
  • to issue the required documents during each mobility,
  • to support and recognize achievements of the teaching staff mobility,
  • to promote and disseminate the actions taken within the Erasmus+ Programme,
  • to publish the Erasmus Policy Statement, the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education and the rules for the participation in the Programme,
  • to fully recognize the student’s studies and to transfer student’s achievements while studying abroad.
